Most current Volkswagen gas engines are turbocharged TSI engines with direct injection. Three things keep them healthy:

• The right oil. Volkswagen lists an oil approval number, such as VW 502 00 or VW 508 00, in the owner's manual. The oil has to carry that approval, not just the right viscosity, because the turbo depends on clean oil. The shop matches the approval your engine calls for.
