Lexus repair in Beavercreek

This page focuses on the Lexus RX and ES. Both are built on Toyota hardware, which is good news for long-term reliability, and both have a few predictable needs once they pass 80,000 miles. Murphy's Autocare has been at this location since Dave Murphy started here as a technician in 1974, and the family has owned it since 1994.

Lexus owners expect to know exactly what is being done to the car. Every visit starts with a digital vehicle inspection, with photos and video sent to your phone, and nothing is repaired until you approve it. Technicians are ASE certified, and senior technicians hold ASE Master Certification.

What the RX and ES need as the miles add up

Timing belt on older V6 models. The ES 300, ES 330, RX 300, and RX 330 use a timing belt, usually replaced around 90,000 miles. Because the water pump sits behind the belt, most owners replace both at once. Read is it necessary to replace a water pump with a timing belt.

Water pump on the 3.5L V6. The RX 350 and ES 350 from about 2007 on use a timing chain, but the water pump is a known leak point. Catch the seep early and it is a routine repair.

Brakes and rotors. Lexus brakes are tuned for quiet stops, so worn pads and warped rotors show up as a pulsing pedal or a light squeal. Road salt also seizes caliper slides. Brake pads, rotors, and brake fluid are checked at every inspection.

Suspension and ride. Worn struts and control arm bushings take the smoothness out of an RX long before they look broken. The technicians check ride quality on the test drive, not just on the lift.

Hybrids. RX 400h, RX 450h, and ES 300h models use the same Toyota hybrid system as the Prius. See Beavercreek hybrid repair.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my Lexus have a timing belt or a timing chain?

It depends on the engine. Older Lexus V6 models, including the ES 300, ES 330, RX 300, and RX 330, use a timing belt that is usually replaced around 90,000 miles, often with the water pump. The 3.5L V6 used in the RX 350 and ES 350 from about 2007 on has a timing chain.

Why is my RX 350 leaking coolant?

The water pump on the 3.5L V6 is a common source of coolant leaks on the RX 350 and ES 350. Look for pink crust on the front of the engine or a sweet smell after driving. The technicians pressure-test the cooling system to confirm the source before quoting a repair.

What oil does a Lexus use?

Most late-model Lexus engines use 0W-20 synthetic, and some newer models use 0W-16. The service advisor checks the specification for your engine, along with the recommended interval for how you drive.

Can an independent shop maintain a Lexus?

Yes. Scheduled maintenance done at an independent shop does not void the factory warranty under the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, as long as the work follows the schedule and you keep records.
