Jeep repair in Beavercreek

The Beavercreek shop works on Wranglers, Gladiators, Grand Cherokees, and Cherokees, stock or lifted. Murphy's Autocare has been at this location since Dave Murphy started here as a technician in 1974, and the family has owned it since 1994. The shop is about 10 minutes from Wright-Patterson AFB.

Technicians are ASE certified, and senior technicians hold ASE Master Certification. Every Jeep gets a digital vehicle inspection, with photos and video sent to your phone, so you can see the front end, axles, and underbody for yourself.

Common Jeep problems

Death wobble. Solid front axle Jeeps, the Wrangler JK and JL and the Gladiator, can develop a violent steering shake after a bump at speed. The cause is almost always wear or looseness in the track bar, tie rod ends, drag link, ball joints, or control arm bushings. A new steering stabilizer can mask it without fixing it. The technicians inspect the entire front end and show you what's worn.

Pentastar oil leaks. The 3.6L V6 in most Wranglers, Grand Cherokees, and Gladiators has a plastic oil filter housing and oil cooler in the valley of the engine. It is a known leak point, and the oil often runs down the back of the engine where it looks like a rear main seal.

4x4 fluids. Transfer cases and front and rear axles need fluid service on schedule, and sooner after water crossings, towing, or heavy off-road use. Water in axle fluid turns it milky and wears out bearings.

Lifts and larger tires. A lift changes steering geometry. Murphy's aligns modified and altered vehicles and is a Tire Rack recommended installer for the larger tires that go with it.

EcoDiesel. The 3.0L EcoDiesel in the Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, and Gladiator has its own needs: fuel filters, EGR, and DEF. See EcoDiesel repair.

Will an independent shop or a lift void my Jeep warranty?

Not by itself. Under the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, maintenance done at an independent shop does not void the factory warranty, as long as it follows the schedule and you keep the records. That includes transfer case and axle fluid service on a Wrangler or Gladiator, and Murphy's gives you an itemized record of each visit.

A lift kit, bigger tires, or other aftermarket parts do not void the whole warranty either. The manufacturer can deny a claim only for damage it shows the part caused. Repairs Jeep pays for under the factory warranty, and safety recalls, still go to the dealer.

Frequently Asked Questions

What causes Jeep death wobble?

Death wobble is a violent shake in the steering after hitting a bump, usually at highway speed, on solid front axle Jeeps like the Wrangler and Gladiator. It usually comes from a worn or loose track bar, tie rod ends, ball joints, or control arm bushings. A new steering stabilizer can hide the symptom without fixing the cause, so the technicians inspect the whole front end.

Why is my Jeep leaking oil near the top of the engine?

On the 3.6L Pentastar V6, the plastic oil filter housing and oil cooler that sit in the valley of the engine are a common leak point. Oil can run down the back of the engine and look like a rear main seal leak. The technicians clean and inspect the area to confirm the source first.

Can you align a lifted Jeep?

Yes. Murphy's does alignments on modified and altered vehicles, including lifted Wranglers and Gladiators, and is a Tire Rack recommended installer for larger tires.

Do you work on the EcoDiesel Jeep?

Yes. Both shops service the 3.0L EcoDiesel in the Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, and Gladiator, including oil changes, fuel filters, EGR, and DEF system repair.

Will an independent shop or a lift void my Jeep warranty?

Not by itself. Under the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, maintenance done at an independent shop does not void the factory warranty, as long as it follows the schedule and you keep records. Aftermarket parts such as a lift kit do not void the whole warranty; the manufacturer can deny a claim only for damage it shows the part caused.
