Why a car wash is maintenance in Ohio
A clean car looks better, but in a Miami Valley winter, washing is about protecting metal. Ohio roads are treated with salt and liquid brine all winter. That mixture sticks to the underside of a vehicle and keeps working long after the snow melts.
Salt speeds up rust on the parts you can't see:
- Brake lines and fuel lines, which run under the car and can rust through
- The frame, subframe, and suspension mounts
- Exhaust pipes, clamps, and hangers
- Brake calipers and rotors, where rust causes sticking and uneven wear
- Rocker panels and wheel wells, where rust starts before it shows
Winter washing tips
- Wash every couple of weeks in winter, and soon after a storm once the roads are treated.
- Choose a wash with an undercarriage rinse. That is where the salt collects.
- Wash on a day above freezing so water doesn't freeze in door seals and locks.
- Wax in the fall. It makes it harder for salt and grime to stick to the paint.
What we look for underneath
When your vehicle is on our lift for an oil change or repair, the technician can see the underside. Every visit includes a digital vehicle inspection, with photos and video sent to your phone or email. If brake lines, exhaust parts, or suspension components are rusting, you will see it in the report, and nothing is repaired until you approve it.
