What happens if you don’t change your cabin air filter?

Keeping the air in your vehicle clean and fresh is essential. Your cabin air filter plays a key role in achieving this. By capturing dust, pollen, dirt, and other pollutants before they enter your car, it prevents them from reaching the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system. Regular maintenance is crucial in ensuring optimal performance for your vehicle.

A blocked cabin air filter can reduce the airflow through your vents. This will result in reduced efficiency of your defroster, heater, and air conditioner. The dirt and debris in the filter can also lead to unpleasant odors each time you use the fan. As well as contribute to foggy windows due to decreased defroster effectiveness.

During hot weather, a clogged filter can force your HVAC system to work harder to circulate air which puts a strain on the blower motor. Most manufacturers recommend replacing the cabin air filter every 15,000–30,000 miles. Or about once a year depending on your driving conditions.
