Is a brake fluid change really necessary?
Your Brakes are the most important system you have. While most drivers focus on Brake Pads and Rotors, there’s another critical component that often gets overlooked which is your Brake Fluid.
Brake fluid is a hydraulic fluid that transfers the pressure from your foot on the brake pedal to the brake calipers. Then press the pads against the rotors to stop your car. This is where clean brake fluid is key.
Over time, Brake Fluid absorbs moisture from the air, even in a sealed system. This lowers its boiling point. This can cause brakes to fade during hard stops or in high-heat situations. Moisture can also lead to internal rust and corrosion in your brake system which can be expensive to repair.
Some of the signs you may need a Brake Fluid Service are soft brake pedal, longer stopping distances, brake warning lights on your dashboard or dirty fluid in the reservoir.
Most manufacturers recommend replacing Brake Fluid every 2–3 years, but this can vary based on driving habits and conditions. Our ASE-certified technicians can test your fluid to determine if it’s time for a change.
At Murphy’s Autocare, we use manufacturer-recommended brake fluid and follow precise procedures to ensure your braking system is ready for anything. Schedule your Brake Fluid Service today.
