I grew up taking apart my Dad's lawnmowers and equipment and was very comfortable repairing cars and trucks. In the summer of 1975 I started working at Tom's Sohio in Beavercreek. Although I was only a junior at Beavercreek High School, Tom had confidence in me and put me to work pumping gas, washing windshields and checking under the hood of what seemed like every car in Greene County. During the next 10 years I was trained to repair whatever came through our bay doors. More importantly I was taught to treat every customer fairly and work hard to meet their needs. This is still our philosophy at Murphy's Autocare, Inc. today.

During that 10 year period I was fortunate to meet my future partner - you know - Mrs. Murphy. Yes, it's true - I met Jan in the spring of 1982 at Tom's Sohio. We had serviced her parents' cars for some time, but I had not had the pleasure of meeting her. She had a 1974 Pontiac Lemans that - lucky for me - needed some seasonal attention. Being the resourceful technician that I am and because I had her phone number, I decided to ask her to go boating. She accepted. We were married a year later, and we now have four children: Megan, 25; Brian, 24; Michael, 22; and Sara, 17.

In 1984, I was offered a job representing a major automotive aftermarket parts manufacturer. I spent the next 10 years training technicians across several states. I learned a lot during this time, but my heart was in Beavercreek wishing I was home running a family-owned repair business like Tom's Sohio.

As luck would have it, I became a casualty of "Corporate Right-Sizing" in the fall of 1994, around the same time Tom and Lois Rice were ready to retire from the automotive repair business. The timing could not have been more perfect, and Tom's Sohio soon became Murphy's Autocare, Inc.

Today Jan and I, along with our children, share the responsibilities of running our family-owned automotive repair business. After 16 years of serving the Beavercreek community, our family is proud to offer the finest in automotive service at Murphy's Autocare, Inc. - a tradition started more than 40 years ago.
